Centaur Firebolt Documentation Version 1.0 8/25/2025 https://www.centaur.pw 1. About Firebolt 2. Version Information 3. User Interface 1. About Firebolt ----------------- Firebolt is a utility for generating lists of duplicate files contained in a directory or drive and provides an interface for deleting or moving the files selected by the user. The program checks the MD5 hash of each file and stores the hash/file name pairs, then checks each file listed against all others to generate a report containing a list of duplicate files organized by MD5 hash. Each line in the duplicate files report includes last modified date and time for the corresponding file. The files included in the ZIP archive are Firebolt.exe and Firebolt.txt. It is recommended to copy these files to a new directory. This documentation is also included within the program. 2. Version Information ---------------------- 1.0: Initial release. 3. User Interface ----------------- Select the Base Directory using the Browse button, then click Start to begin the process. All accessible files will be hashed and compared, and the results will be listed in the Files and Duplicate Files panels. A progress window lists the current file being processed and closes automatically when the process has finished. One of the files appearing in each group of identical files is the original file. Click on the checkbox next to each file that will be subject to quarantine or deletion. To quarantine rather than delete the files, select a quarantine directory and click Move. Check the Move to Recycle Bin box to move files to the Recycle Bin rather than delete them when the Delete button is clicked. The Files panel contains a list of all files scanned by the program. Each line contains the file's MD5 hash and the full path to the file. The Duplicate Files panel contains the list of files that share an MD5 hash with one or more other scanned files. This list is sorted by MD5 hash value, which groups identical files together. Files sharing the same hash will share the same color in this table. The lines in this list include the last modified time for each file between the hash and the file path. Right-clicking an item in either panel will open a menu with operations to show the file in Windows Explorer or copy the selected item to the clipboard. Under each panel is a Save button to save their contents in a plain text file. Uncheck the Recursive box to scan only the selected base directory without entering any subdirectories contained within.
